Welcome to the Strategic Plan in Action page

As part of our ongoing commitment to student success, innovation, and continuous improvement, this page serves as a transparent, centralized hub for our school’s strategic planning efforts. Developed collaboratively by school leadership, staff, families, and community partners, our Strategic Improvement Plan outlines the goals, actions, and measures that guide our work each year.

Here, stakeholders can explore:

  • Our long-term vision and priorities for teaching, learning, and school culture

  • Data-informed goals that focus on student achievement, equity, and growth

  • Action steps and initiatives, including the effective use of technology to enhance instruction and operations

  • Progress monitoring indicators that show how we measure success and adjust practices

  • Opportunities for stakeholder input and collaboration

As both the School Improvement Chairperson and Technology Coordinator, I am committed to ensuring this information is accessible, clear, and updated regularly. This page reflects our belief that meaningful improvement happens when goals are shared, progress is visible, and technology is leveraged to support communication and learning.

We invite you to review our plan, celebrate our successes, and partner with us as we work together to prepare every student for future success.

Climate & Culture Committee: Communication Plan Overview

To support the goals outlined in our Strategic Improvement Plan, our school has developed a comprehensive Communication Plan that outlines how we share information clearly, consistently, and effectively with all stakeholders. This plan is grounded in recommendations from the Cognia AER Report and is designed to strengthen trust, engagement, and two-way communication across our school community.

Within this section, stakeholders can review how communication responsibilities are shared among teachers, administrators, office staff, and district leadership, as well as the specific tools used to communicate with parents, students, staff, community members, and new families. The plan details the purpose and appropriate use of communication channels such as the school website, email, mobile apps, newsletters, social media, and in-person events to ensure information is accessible and timely.

Additionally, the Communication Plan outlines how effectiveness is evaluated through stakeholder feedback, engagement metrics, response times, and participation rates. This ongoing review process allows the school to refine communication practices, improve clarity, and expand opportunities for stakeholder voice. Together, these efforts ensure communication remains aligned with our strategic goals and supports a connected, informed, and engaged school community.

Climate & Culture Committee: Family Engagement Overview

At Park River Area School District, we believe that strong partnerships between families and schools are essential to student success. Our Family Engagement Calendar and Plan highlights the many opportunities throughout the school year for families to connect, participate, and celebrate learning alongside their children.

Throughout the year, families are invited to attend a wide variety of events, including open houses, family nights, parent-teacher conferences, concerts, performances, academic competitions, and community celebrations. Each quarter includes at least one family-focused event, giving families regular opportunities to engage with staff, students, and other families. Seasonal highlights such as the Library Book Fair, Homecoming activities, holiday concerts, fine arts expos, and awards programs help showcase student learning and school pride.

The plan also outlines how families stay informed through district newsletters, surveys, and school communications, as well as how feedback is gathered to continuously improve family engagement. Events are monitored to ensure they are well-communicated, welcoming, and meaningful, and family input is used to guide future planning. In addition to scheduled events, classrooms may host special activities throughout the year to further strengthen family connections to learning.

We encourage all families to take part in these opportunities and share their voices. Together, we can build a supportive, connected school community that helps every student thrive.

Technology & Innovation Committee: Computer Science & Cybersecurity Integration Plan

The Technology and Innovation Committee worked collaboratively to develop our Computer Science and Cybersecurity Integration Plan, ensuring students are prepared with essential digital skills for the future. This committee included representatives from elementary and secondary teaching staff, support staff, and parent and community members, allowing for multiple perspectives in the planning process.

Throughout the 2023–2024 school year, the committee studied state requirements outlined in HB 1398 and reviewed the North Dakota Computer Science and Cybersecurity Standards across all grade levels. Members analyzed these standards to determine priority skills, identify natural connections to existing curriculum, and ensure instruction is developmentally appropriate. Careful consideration was given to how computer science and cybersecurity concepts could be integrated into classroom instruction, library/media programming, and existing course offerings rather than taught in isolation.

The result is a clear, grade-level plan that provides students with consistent, meaningful opportunities to build skills in technology systems, digital citizenship, computational thinking, and information literacy. The committee also identified the need for staff training, credentialing, and future resources to support successful implementation. This thoughtful, collaborative approach ensures our technology instruction aligns with our strategic goals and prepares students to be safe, responsible, and capable digital citizens.
